Qualities of WYCAP volunteers

  • A sincere awareness of and interest in the ethical treatment of animals 

  • Belief in the WYCAP mission and its potential to perform useful public service 

  • Ability and willingness to listen with an open mind and deal with conflict tactfully 

  • Willingness to communicate courteously with others about animal welfare issues 

  • Willingness to respond to actionalerts via emails, letters, phone calls, or social media 

  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter 

  • Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality 

  • Commitment to taking action, one to three hours per week; the majority of work can be done remotely or via phone 

  • Willingness to attend virtual training opportunities and to consider attendance at an annual in-person meeting to network with statewide WYCAP members.

Volunteer opportunities

Public Education and Outreach

  • Presentations at service organizations

  • Booths and tabling at regional and local events

  • Development and design of outreach materials

  • Research Issues: Horse Hoarding and Euthanasia, Wyoming Large Breeders, Economics of Killing Wildlife (Trophy and Predators), Legislation Topics 

News and Events

  • Responding to local animal cruelty events in the news via letter-to-the editor or articles

  • Write letters to local elected officials about animal cruelty cases

  • Attend local meetings addressing animal cruelty events, predator control, or positive projects such as wildlife crossing dedication or new local shelter dedication

Networking

  • Attend quarterly meetings:

    • Wyoming Game and Fish Commission

    • Wyoming Animal Damage Management Board (predator control)

    • Legislative Committee: Travel, Recreation, Wildlife and Cultural Resources (TRW): May 27-28 in Casper; September 8 – 9 in Jackson; November 8 – 10 in Cheyenne

    • Agriculture, State and Public Lands and Water Resources

  • Respond to community-level animal cruelty cases' requests for help

Fundraising

  • Create or manage fundraising events for WYCAP: online, statewide, or in-person local

  • Collaborate with allied organizations on fundraising events

Volunteer with wycap
